Tips & Tricks

In this section I will try to show some tips and tricks that may prove helpful.

If are just starting and have not looked at Careful with Resources, I would suggest you do so.

Tall Oaks Trees

Would you like a better chance at getting a tall oak tree? (Screenshot taken from Potato guidebook - Use regular torches not redstone torches.)

Pro Tip

Open your guidebook and if you see a rotating image similar to the one above or below, then click on the eye icon in the lower-left to place an in-world visualization.

Better Waterwheels

Want a more powerful Waterwheel? Use Soul Sand!

• The red arrow points the direction of the waterwheel.

• The blue arrows show water source blocks.

• The white arrow shows soul sand.

This tip if done right will provide 320 SU."

Get to Y -64 Alive! - Skyblock only!

Making a mob farm at the bottom of the world is best if you can remain alive. Here is a simple tip:

• Place a bucket of lava on the side of your island and let it flow to Y -65 (the void)

• Have a bucket of water ready and pick up the lava and place the water

• The remaining lava will become a cobble pillar

• Pick up the water when the pillar is formed

• Place the water again, but 2 blocks away.

• Use the water as a ladder to descend

• At about Y -62 place some slabs or blocks on the side of the pillar

• Jump on placed blocks and don't die!

End Portal

To make an End Portal, stand in the middle of a 5x5 flat surface. looking in front of you skip one block then place an End Portal, then place one on the left and then on the right. Turn 90 degrees and repeat until you have place all 12 End Portals. If you make a mistake, use your Create wrench to shift-right-click on the End Portal to pick it up.

Look Up/Tweak Mods

If you want to learn about a particular mod or tweak a config:

• Open the Mods menu page (some mods will show links to issue trackers, website links, and mod settings.)

  • From the main menu page, click on the Mods icon.

  • From within a world, open Game Menu page (default Esc key)

  • Click on Mods.

  • Search for the mod you are interested in.

  • Click on the mod icon to show the details.

• Search Google or your favorite search engine for the mod. Search results can include:

  • Link to mod page on Curseforge

  • Links to wiki pages

  • Links to YouTube videos
